2022 Brings Changes to RHG

Retirement in 2020 brought about some changes in RHG’s stable of motorcycles.    Adding to the desire for changes, was the closure of Heritage Harley-Davidson.     The 2017 HD Road Glide was traded for a 2018 BMW K1600 GTL.    Off to Colorado to Raw Hyde Training we went.   The following year I’d return to New Mexico, Colorado and then on to Wyoming on my BMW R1200 GS.    That ended with a 2 1/2-day ride in an U-Haul truck home.   My last ride on the BMW K1600 GTL would be in early November to Tennessee.    That ride would be the coldest trip ever.    Sometime after that as we looked forward to planning a 2022 adventure, both Cheryl and I would land at a decision to go back to our Harley Davidson touring routes.    Thanks to Harley Davidson Shop of Rochester that transition materialized.  While I miss Heritage H-D and am still bothered by that “corporate outcome” …. all the the folks at Rochester were excellent.   They ARE my new H-D “go to” home.

Motorcycles and Museums

I had no plans for the next day. I woke that Saturday and decided to go to town to get a coffee. There is only so much instant “camp” coffee one can have.

I rounded the corner past the old bowl mill and sited some activity around the Weston Historical Society Museum. The museums, three buildings in all were located on the town green. Idyllic and picturesque…… I was drawn in.

The Story of the Restore Hope Retreat

I was in a slump. It had been a couple of months since my ill-fated Continental Divide Run had ended.

And I had gotten myself, my broken BMW GS and all my riding gear home. And yes, there was also my flight trip back to Louisiana to retrieve my truck and trailer…. In the end, it was about 8,000 miles of travel……. buy truck, motorcycle, U-Haul, airplane, and an empty trailer home.

It had all left me devoid of interest to take on any new adventure or road trip. Everything from the trailer to the bike and ALL the trappings had been cleaned and stored away. It was as if winter was upon us, and it was time to hibernate.

CDR 2021 – Some of the Unlikely Vistas

Perhaps off-road riding has a haz mat risk component too  😉

Photo 1 – This was the End of the Trail for me.   Location of where my front tire rim decided it couldn’t go any further

Photo 2  – Sweetwater Uranium Mine.   The building and LARGE land formation (right) appeared in the desert.   It was massive.
