While the adventure would end for me a bit off course – it was an epic adventure that I shall never forget. I cannot thank Craig Ripley (Living Off the Slab) enough for inviting me to come along on this trip . . . and thank him for his patience along the many miles and days!!
This is week 5 of the adventure. Cheryl and I would continue and conclude our two-week exploring of the Utah National Parks with Craig and Cathy. It was likely some of the best sights we have done to date. Spoiler alert … the 2023 ride planning is almost done!
Mother Road Tour 2022 – Part 1 @ Weeks 1-3 [New Hampshire, Rt 66 to Las Vegas]
The small print . . . as Buddy will explain in the first and last posts, I am a still imager photographer that occasionally puts my face and voice to a video. As such these four posts are “silent films” of the sights of this epic adventure. Add to those images a “background” of elevator music.
Perhaps someday, I will evolve into the talking head. But I really don’t have that much to say that can over-ride the images of the adventure. In the end, my early years of zone system photography at the now defunct Art Institute of Boston remains in grained in me. Too many years of being in a dark room with the smell of silver bromide and the phosphorescent glow of the GraLab analog timer in the background.
Now for the introduction . . . in July of this year [2022], I headed out on the road with Craig Ripley, Living Off The Slab. Craig had invited me to join him on an epic cross country motorcycle ride. The ride would start in New England and travel to the Pacific Ocean and back to our homes in New England. It would be the longest motorcycle road trip of my life. It was an epic opportunity for which I will be eternally grateful to Craig.
I didn’t do as much photography on this trip as I typically do and I clearly fell short on providing adequate narrative support. But, I have decided to put together four (4) video posts to document this epic road trip.
The first Part will be New England to Las Vegas. The second Part will be the Utah National Parks – this is the section where Cheryl and Cathy would join us! And the last Part will be the journey home. Unfortunately, I would have to leave the trip early and head home. As I made my bee-line trip home, Craig would remain on course and complete the trip that he had planned.
The first video will be released Sunday – 5 February 2023. And then one each Sunday for the next three weeks.
It was New Years Day . . . we decided to take the Cog Railroad up to the winter railyard on Mount Washington. My sister and brother in-law Gordon came. It was a great day with family.
I was always too lazy to write one of those Year In Review letters that some folks enclose with their Christmas cards. But this year I thought I grab some photos and clips that are not from my “on the road” travels and put together a short Year In Review. Parental discretion is advised . . . my cat swears more than I do (well close anyway). [sorry for the long pause in the beginning of this post]
Although I went to college in Maine, I never really explored the wild surrounds of the forest and sea. This past weekend we had a wonderful time doing exploration by ATVs and walking the rocky shores. I am grateful to have Pat, Kate and the kids in my life. They remind me what is important.
Not reaching out to the Continental Divide “Trail Boss” . . . . but I have missed the ability to explore dirt roads since selling the BMW R1200 GS. Plan B surfaces!!
After coming off a rather unexpected dismount on the 2022 Mother Road Tour – we decided to keep our tradition of an annual fall ride going. Unlike any prior Fall Run …… this year would be a wet one.
We headed to Lake George NY for the first night. That began the wet run of 2022. That weather pattern would stay with us for the entire trip – however day 1 would force us to seek cover under a Motel 6 awning!
The only photos and videos that we did during this trip was at Watkins Glen State Park. This short video is without narrative. The park was a bit underwhelming after summer runs to the Utah National Parks.
But we continued our traditions and will begin to think about next year’s end of season run.
We returned to Nashville to attend the tribute show and country music walk of fame dedication to the late John Prine.
We had not been back to Nashville since before the 2020 Christmas day bombing of second avenue. Our first day in Nashville we set out to walk down to second ave.
